Contemporary Art Museum

It is one of the main museums in Barcelona.

You must visit the modern Art Museum of Barcelona (MACBA) if you are a visitor in Barcelona and are interested in modern art. One of the most significant museums in the area, it houses a sizable collection of contemporary art in addition to rotating temporary exhibits.

How to get to the MACBA, Where it is

Within walking distance of La Rambla, in the center of Barcelona’s Raval neighborhood, is the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona. The museum is accessible by foot, by bicycle, or by public transportation. You can get there by bus or bike, although the closest metro stop is line 3 (Drassanes).

In the center of the Raval neighborhood, on Plaça dels ngels, is where you’ll find the MACBA. With numerous bars and restaurants, more museums, and art galleries, it is a highly vibrant and diverse neighborhood. Many young inhabitants congregate in Plaça dels ngels, a pedestrian plaza with a sizable central fountain, to play sports, skate, or just pass the time.

Prices and discounts

Adult admission to the museum costs 12 euros, while student and senior admission is only 8 euros. Discounts are available for parties larger than 15 persons, as well as for those who are disabled or without a job. Under-14s are admitted free of charge.

Timetable

From Tuesday through Sunday, from 11 am to 7 pm, the museum is open. On Mondays, as well as on January 1st, May 1st, and December 25th, the museum will be closed.

What collections are there?

Over 5,000 pieces of modern art, including pictures, sculptures, photos, videos, and other media, are part of the MACBA’s permanent collection. Along with international artists, you can also find the work of Catalan and Spanish artists.
